Visit Fukui Varve Museum!
The varve of lake Suigetsu is one of a global standerd scale of date. The vareves have highly accurate data of the natural environment in the past 70,000 years.
This museum stands by the Lake Mikata Goko. There is a famous eel restaurant near the museum. We can watch various kind of bird on the lake.
Nice visit but would love to see some english there 😉 …
History of nature
I didn't know what to expect going into this place, but it was soooo very interesting. They have some English stuff, but not much. Bring a translator that is interested in science. If you are a history or science person, come here, it's a great way to use a couple of hours
The building was a stylish and sophisticated space.
There were about 20 people inside the museum, so it wasn't crowded and we were able to look around in a relaxed manner.
The contents of the exhibit were interesting, and it was very interesting to see that the records of Japan's temperature changes and volcanic activity are visible in the varves...!
Shima Cafe has a nice view and a calm atmosphere where you can relax.
I want to go again! !
A small museum in Jomon Roman Park in Mikata, Fukui Prefecture that displays the varves of Lake Suigetsu.
The nearest station is JR Mikata Station. Free parking is available.
It is a very stylish building.
It's so stylish that I can't see the entrance.
Stripes here and there.
When I was sightseeing around the Mikata Goko Lakes, I visited a cafe because I thought the "Shishima Sandwich" was cute, but it was closed!... Too bad.
According to SNS, it will be on hiatus for a while.
However, the theater where I learned about varves, which I didn't know about, was really good and easy to understand.
The longest in the world! I had no idea it was such an amazing place!
The real stained glass with precious varves, which was made with great difficulty, is also worth a look.
